Moving into a senior living community is a major life transition. There is often excitement about new opportunities and friendships. There can also be uncertainty as residents adjust to a new home and routine.
One of the most valuable resources we have during that transition is our Resident Ambassador program. Resident Ambassadors help create connections and offer encouragement. They also provide peer-to-peer support that can make a new resident feel welcome from day one.
Their willingness to reach out matters. They share their experiences and invite others into community life. In doing so, they help turn neighbors into friends and a community into home.
As Resident Services Director at Boulevard St. Peters, I have seen firsthand the difference these resident leaders make. They help new residents feel comfortable, connected, and engaged.
A successful move-in experience begins with personal attention. At Boulevard St. Peters, that means each new resident has a friendly face nearby. It also means they feel like a welcomed part of the community from the start.

Move-in day can feel busy and overwhelming. That is why simple moments of kindness matter. A smile, a greeting, or a resident ready to help can bring comfort. These gestures remind new residents that they are not entering the community alone.
Resident Ambassadors play a significant role in the move-in process. The welcome begins with a first point of contact representative who delivers the welcome gift. Another ambassador invites the new resident to share a meal. They also talk through the program calendar. A third person sets up time to discuss the Arrow App. This helps the resident feel more familiar with available tools and resources.
Some of the most meaningful welcomes are also the simplest. On a chaotic day, a friendly face can be a true blessing. It gives new residents someone to look for. It also gives them someone to ask questions and sit with during early community experiences.
One meaningful example involved a new resident who felt fearful about going to the restaurant for the first time. She said it felt like being the new kid all over again. The welcome ambassador had already delivered her gift. Because of that, she recognized a friendly face in the dining room. She also had someone to sit with right away.
That moment shows how much one early connection can matter. A simple introduction gave the resident comfort, confidence, and a place to begin.
Residents often respond quickly to other residents because many have been through the same experience. Sometimes, it takes someone who has “walked a mile in your shoes” to understand the transition. That shared understanding helps new residents feel seen and supported.
Resident Ambassadors help shape the culture of the community through leadership, advocacy, and positivity. They support both residents and team members. They set a welcoming tone and carry a message of encouragement throughout the community. Their attitude helps new residents feel hopeful and included. Their example also inspires others to offer the same kindness.
Resident Ambassadors do far more than welcome new residents. They help build the culture of our community. Through kindness, friendship, and a willingness to include others, they create an environment where people feel seen, valued, and connected.
The move-in process may only last a few days. The relationships formed during that time can have a lasting impact. We are grateful for the Resident Ambassadors who help make our community a place where every resident feels like they belong.
