Choosing a “Word of the Year” is more than a fun tradition. It is a powerful tool for focus and growth at The Boulevard Senior Living of St. Peters. A single word can guide decisions, inspire action, and unite teams around a shared purpose. Reflecting on the word selected for the year helps reveal how it shaped our culture, strengthened connections, and supported meaningful experiences for residents and team members. This end-of-year review allows us to celebrate successes, learn from challenges, and prepare for continued progress in the year ahead.

Our Word of the Year was embrace, and it proved especially meaningful during a year of staffing challenges within Culinary. Throughout the year, our Department Head Team consistently stepped up. They embraced the opportunity to learn dining room operations and provided hands-on support during meals and events.
We also embraced our role as a pilot community for the Cubigo transportation app. This transition brought several benefits. The team appreciated shared access to schedules, improved organization for Plant Operations, and added convenience for residents and families scheduling transportation.
Focusing on this word throughout the year led to clear improvements in teamwork, efficiency, and organization. As a leadership team, I often reminded everyone that “that’s not my job” is not part of our culture. Through daily communication and a willingness to support every department, we strengthened our commitment to showing up for one another. As departmental needs shifted, our shared mindset allowed us to work fluidly and cooperatively.
Looking back, I am reminded of the strength of our team and the joy that comes from helping one another.

As we reflect on the impact of our Word of the Year at The Boulevard Senior Living of St. Peters, it is clear that a single concept can spark meaningful change. It guided our priorities, strengthened our sense of community, and reinforced the values that matter most. By reviewing the actions tied to this word, we celebrate what we achieved and identify opportunities for growth. These lessons will carry us forward into the year ahead, because one word truly can make a difference when it is lived every day.
